Nestled in a vastly alive jungle, the Tikal ruins are a play ground in modern adventure with incredible bird and animal viewing as well as a unique doorway to the past.

Walking among these immense, pre-Colombian monuments will have you wonder at the Mayan civilization of centuries past and if you're lucky you may stumble upon a Mayan ceremony, the descendants of the previous inhabitants of Tikal carrying on their cultural and religious rituals in todayâs modern world.  It is no wonder this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

While in the Petèn, Guatemala's northern most department, a visit to the island town of Flores and Lake Petèn Itzà  is definitely worth it. If you are not staying at the Parque Nacional de Tikal itself, Flores or Santa Elena on the southern shores of the Lake and El Remate on the Lake´s northern shores have some lovely accommodation to offer.

Sleeping at one of the 3 hotels situated within the National Park of Tikal itself offers a very special nocturnal experience filled with jungle sounds and endless animal sightings. If you stay in the Park you will be able to catch both a stunning sun rise and sun set from atop the Temples...truly magical!

However, a day trip to Tikal allows you to take advantage of the wonderful creature comforts offered in Flores, Santa Elena or El Remate when you return from the park. Wander through the old winding streets of Flores or paddle a kayak on the water. Enjoy the lake as well as the jungle - there is nothing like diving into the cool, refreshing waters of Lake Petèn Itzà  after a long hot day hiking in the jungle ruins.
