If you are interested in Mayan culture, then you will see the modern Maya in their day-to-day life all around the lake and hear Kaqchikel and Tz'utujil language spoken everywhere. Your eyes will delight in the vibrant colors and textures of Mayan traje, or traditional dress, unique to each village.

1. Casa Kaqchikel, 14 de Fevrero, Panajachel. One of the oldest buildings at the Lake, recently and beautifully restored. This is a cultural center with a lot of historical photos, information about the Lake and events. Che Guevara once enjoyed a stop here!
2. Hike El Nadiz del Indio for a great workout and even better views of the Lake.
3. Visit Moximòn's shrine in Santiago, Atitlàn.
4. Learn the ancient art of back strap weaving with a local woman. Create your own masterpiece!
5. Posada Jaibalito: have a beer, a freshly brewed seriously local coffee, eat some delicious food...you might as well spend a night!
6. Check out the 2nd hand traditional textiles market at the fire station in Panajachel Tuesday and Friday mornings-there are some real bargains here.
