The Complete Guatemala Travel Guide
La Antigua, once Guatemala's capitol, is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Although several earthquakes have left many of the colonial era buildings in ruins, there are many gorgeous colonial buildings still intact and a sprinkling of ruins around the city give it a charm like no other.
You will enjoy an incredible choice of international restaurants, great nightlife and plenty of shopping on the streets of Antigua.
If you are more adventuresome, perhaps a hike up Guatemala's active volcano would keep you entertained for an afternoon. Bicycle and walking tours are wonderful ways to explore the city as well as its outskirts.

And no trip to Guatemala is complete without at least a brief stint in a Spanish language school. Antigua is a hub of many, so enroll for a class and get ready to chat with the friendly locals you meet on the street!
