Getting to Cambodia

Cambodia is an increasingly popular tourist destination and is visited by travelers from around the world. Getting to Cambodia can be easily achieved in a variety of ways.

By Plane

Cambodia is an easy place to reach by airplane; multiple carriers offer a variety of flight schedules.
Cambodia has two international airports at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.(Ankor Wat).

Phnom Penh has direct international flights from mainland China, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand amongst many others.

SIem Reap can be reached from many regional cities, these include Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Singapore to name a few.

With the introduction of low cost carriers in the region, flights have become much easier to organize and inexpensive.

Overland

For many years overland travelers could only really enter or exit Cambodia at the Bavet–Moc Bai border crossing with Vietnam. However, more land crossings between Cambodia and its neighbors have now opened, offering overland connections with Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. However, many of the newly opened crossings are aimed at promoting trade rather than making travelers live easier.

Bus
You can travel by bus to cross into Cambodia from Thailand or Vietnam. The most popular way to or from Vietnam is the inexpensive bus via Bavet on the Cambodian side and Moc Bai in Vietnam. From Thailand, many travelers take the bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap via the Poipet–Aranya Prathet border crossing.

Laos

There is one border crossing for tourists on the Mekong, a 90 minute speedboat ride north of Stung Treng.

Thailand

Vietnam

It's possible to travel between Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh by boat, or by combination of road and boat. Fast boats leave daily from Chau Doc in Vietnam's Mekong Delta and take 5 hours to reach Phnom Penh. Chau Doc is a four hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City.

Laos

Stung Treng in Cambodia is connected to Pakse and the Four Thousand Islands region of Laos by the Voeung Kam/Dom Kralor border.

Land Borders

Thailand
There are six border crossings with Thailand, all open from 7am to 8pm and all offer visas on arrival.

Remember that Thai buses run to, but not over the crossings. That being said, it is easy to arrange a taxi or inexpensive bus to your destination, from the Cambodian side.

The main or more popular border crossings are:

Aranyaprathet/Poipet

The busiest land crossing on the main Bangkok – Siem Reap road. Battambang and Phnom Penh are also easy to reach from here.

Hat Lek/Koh Kong

For those who enjoyed the beaches in Thailand, this crossing continues to enjoy the beaches of Cambodia.

Ban Pakard/Phra Prom

A more scenic alternative to get to Siem Reap, whilst avoiding the major crossing at Poipet.

Vietnam
There are a number of land borders between these two countries; the more popular crossings are the following:

Moc Bai/Bavet

This is the main border, situated on the Ho Chi Minh City – Phnom Penh road. This is inexpensive and should take around 6 hours.

Xa Xia/Prek Chak

To keep your travels beach side, take the bus between Ha Tien (Vietnam) to SIhanoukville and Phnom Penh.
