Getting Around Cambodia
Bamboo Train
A unique way to travel in and around Battambang, are the bamboo trains. Crafted from old carriage parts and scraps of wood, these self made trains provide transport around Battambang and to the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Unlike any train ride you have been on, share you journey with pigs, rice and friendly locals – ask around to find out where you can find a “noris”.

Plane
Recently the domestic aviation scene in Cambodia has improved.
The only airports currently operating scheduled passenger flights are Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
The main operator is Cambodia Angkor Air, a joint venture between the government and Vietnam Airlines, which flies between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). The other operator is Aero Cambodia these are currently operating from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and Siem Reap to Sihanoukville. Both represent inexpensive ways to fly in Cambodia.
Helicopter
Helistar Cambodia a VIP helicopter charter company. Helicopters can be chartered to fly from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for one-way or return journeys. They operate modern, air-conditioned helicopters seating for up to 6 passengers. A pick-up and set-down transfer service is also available at both international airports.
Bus
Since 2008, there have been marked improvements in the roads throughout Cambodia. This is moving at such a pace that travel advice is quickly out of date. All borders, coast and major cities are well connected with passable roads.
Longer journeys in Cambodia can be taken by bus, pickup truck or shared taxi. In many towns, whichever of these are available will be found at the local market square. Larger towns and cities will have bus stations, planned services etc
Bus travel in Cambodia is cheap, with journeys from Phnom Penh to SiemReap or Sihanoukville should cost around US$5.
Motobike
Motorcycle rentals are available in most towns, with the notable exception of Siem Reap. Be careful: driving rules are completely different from what you know from home.. Make sure you have all the necessary insurance before taking a rental bike.
In all main cities, motorcycle taxis are everywhere. For quick trips across town, it won’t take long before someone offers you a ride - for a small fee of around $1 USD.
Boat
Boat travel in Cambodia is slower and more expensive (relatively) than going by road. However, boat travel in Cambodia offers a completely new perspective to traveling and should be experienced at least once. Ferries operate along many of the main rivers; major routes include Phnom Penh to SIem Reap and Siem Reap to Battambang.
Train
The rail system in Cambodia is almost non-existent. Passenger services are no more; however it may be possible to hitch a lift on a freight train. Beware, this is not an easy route, the trains are slow, bumpy and uncomfortable. The better sections of the remaining track is between Takeo and Kampot and then over to Sihanoukville.

Bicycle
Cycling Cambodia is a great way to explore the country. Travelling this way is a great way to experience local people and their villages because of the slower pace. Try cycling around Angkor Wat complex, a unique experience. Many guesthouses will rent you a bicycle for around $1 - $2 USD a day, so it’s cheap and good for you too.
